Hertfordshire County Council are transforming its registration services so that residents can now book appointments online to register births and deaths, and to give notice of marriage and civil partnerships. The council have said that the changes will save over £220,000 by 2012/13 with no loss of jobs.

Intel just in the last week has announced the world’s first silicon based optical data connection that incorporates lasers. Distance is vastly extended over current copper technology as well as allowing greater speeds of 50 gigabits per second. For those who aren’t technically minded, that’s the equivalent of 1 High Definition film being transmitted every second.
